30. What if teachers learned to perform to transform rather than be a guide by the side or a sage on the stage?

Teachers perhaps need to be an equal part performer who enact and ‘live’ the subject in their interactions with students. Music, theatre, visual arts and drama can bring alive a subject like nothing else. Students that participate in performative classrooms and participate in the Arts are shown by research to perform better even on standardized tests and be more engaged than those who do not.

In fact, proponents of STEAM education belive that theatre, music, dance and creative arts play an important role in developing personal-social awareness and a greater grasp of certain subjects. For example, Music and Maths education appear to have a strong correlation, as does perhaps Creative Arts and Engineering.
